Hi. I’m David Horsman. Kiwi, photographer, traveller, bon vivant and foodie.
I was raised on a farm at a time when 'farm to fork' was all there was.
Dave's Tours is a whimsical nod to the down-to-earth, easy-going aesthetic I’ve built over decades of travel since.
It's an aesthetic I love to share.
The culinary side of that aesthetic took off in 2003 when I co-founded a cooking school and gastronomic tour business at my home in the South of France with fellow New Zealander, food writer and entertainer Peta Mathias.
Before "curated" and "experiential" became buzzwords, we were pioneers in immersive food adventures across Europe, North Africa and India.
Our signatures? Kiwi chilled-ness, fab F&B, drop-dead gorgeous settings, an obsessive attention to detail, a certain theatricality and love of dressing up...
... and a whole lot of fun.
But over a decade of extraordinary escapades, I came to recognise that food tourism could - and should - also have a more profound and socially responsible impact.
That realisation aligned perfectly with the evolving desires of a new, more enlightened traveller.
Travellers seeking authenticity, sustainability, and meaningful connections.
Travellers who crave a compelling narrative to go with the comfort, the aesthetics and the good times.
By 2014, I was working as a consultant at the confluence of high-end tourism, cuisine, agriculture, and education.
I developed a unique business model leveraging high end ethical rural tourism to promote food security and sovereignty.
The focus was particularly in the West Indies, Mediterranean islands and other places where food security is deeply compromised.
Dave’s Tours emerged from this vision, with a promise of unforgettably entertaining, and deeply personal travel experiences.
Experiences that embrace the entire food journey, from forest to temple and farms to fine dining.
Experiences that can only occur in small intimate groups travelling in-the-know with someone with a deep passion for his subject.
Experiences that make a positive contribution to the places they visit.
